COOK COUNTY: Second-Worst for Lawsuit Abuse
Illinois ranks as one of the worst (46th out of 50) states for lawsuit abuse – and that reputation is due, in large part, to Cook County.
That’s because Cook County ranks as the second-worst jurisdiction in the country for lawsuit abuse.
This reputation is good for trial lawyers … but bad for Illinois’ employers, consumers and working families.

A Cook County Lawsuit Tax?
Did you know that the City of Chicago pays out more money in lawsuit settlements than Los Angeles, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia and Dallas combined?
Or that the Cook County Board is considering a quarter-billion in new bonds to help pay for the rising number of lawsuits against the county?
This is nothing more than a Cook County Lawsuit Tax - new debt paid for by county taxpayers in an economic slowdown - on top of the massive sales tax increase enacted last year.
